Nae good, you're absolutely right about the guys you mention - great players, more or less of a generation (apart from Chris) and we were very lucky to
have them, but to ask where are they now is a bit like asking where are the Dalglishes, the Laws, Baxters, Johnstones etc etc ?- they are just not there. Why
theyr'e not there must be something to do with the way society works these days - too many other interests maybe, the failure of schools after the
teachers strikes for twenty years to take sport seriously, I don't know. Another thing is that in the past players like Chris Clark and Ricky Foster would
have started their careers with the City. Now there are different routes to success. As for the drinking, it always been part of the culture of the game up
here. Good hard game, reasonable paypacket and out for the night with your mates. We can probably all think of players who could have gone a bit further in the
game but they liked that culture and stayed in the north. Its partly to do with geography as well. At any rate it seems to be the case that very few HL players
see the 3rd Division of the SFL as a step up or as a route to higher things. Im not qualified to say anything about the youth setup at the City, but it does
seem really weird that there are not one or two youth players knocking on the door of a first team that's performing so abysmally. Also if there is a
perceived need to change the culture of the setup away from partying to putting a career in the game first, it seems to me that the Skillseekers was the ideal
setup to do that.... on the other hand young guys do get drunk ...

A very well put post, but with the obvious problem being given a "Blessing" by even you.Obviously it wasn't meant to a green light for the kids to justify them going out drinking. I just think if the club showed professionalism then it would rub off on the kids. but the question is you name the players you think are good enough for 1st status. The question is; "which ones are more than capable of training with the first team and learning from the experienced players?" Also I don't think it would do much for the moral of an already beleagered squad if I were to name players and leave out a handful. Here at Joe Public, we have a programme which starts from 8 years old in the coaching school, where the kids get a chance to "express" themselves, but what we are really looking for is those who are different. The ones who, even at that age, pass the ball rather than run with it. Those who are more physically established than others of the same age.I don't agree with that, I look for kids who are natural athletes, good balance and will keep the ball, at that age I don't encourage passing, rather, I prefer kids to be comfortable on the ball and willing to take players on. I work on technique only at that age, teamwork will come much later. Not only are we ruthless with the players, but with the coaches also, as some of them stray from the system, and go back to their old ways, and some continue to bring in players of friends and family, who are no good to the club at all. So, we cut the coaches. We can't afford to invest in development, if we are not going to get the end product that we require. This is something Elgin should adopt. After the takeover, I had a discussion with Tats about trimming some of the dead wood but he refused to do it, he did have a reason, I didn't agree, but could see his point of view. I'm home on the 15th. December for 4 weeks, and I'll be at the Trust AGM on Tuesday, 16th., and if anyone from the club wants to ask me for any advic on how we do things, then they're welcome to get in touch with me, and I'll give it freely.I hope they take this offer up with you Mo, although you have occasional differences in opinion with me, they won't go far wrong taking advice from someone who has been there and done and with contacts like yours, who knows we mught just start to move forward. Nae good, how you doing? Enjoying your time with the weegies? Don't bring back any bad habits now, by the way. |

Think it should be ok mate. Snow almost all gone and frost out of the ground. Slight rain tonight so pitch will probably be a bit heavy on saturday i would
think.
Have a good trip. |

Hows the weather up there today?

We can see black earth again so it looks promising.
As long as the frost stays away overnight. Book your ticket it should be on. |

It's been pouring down here in Inverness all day - so if it's the same through in Elgin, we should be ok. As Citymad says, it all depends on the frost
but even then with the rain I can't see it being enough to call it off. Well that's what I'm hoping anyway!!

It looks like the game will be on, it's quite warm (but not really), all we need now is for the rain to stop.
And sure, they've beaten better teams than Elgin but where has it gotten them? |

I've checked some betting sites and it seems we have the longer odds.

How is it looking today? Game in any doubt at all?

The ground's soft and there's no rain so far - so I don't think there's any doubt that the game will go ahead.

Heard Joe Malin was fantastic today. He must've been the emergancy loan Robbie was talking about? Great bit of business that, Joe is a fantastic keeper.
Great result and we're into the next round! Hope a lot of people make the trip down here to lanarkshire for the game and maybe help cause a wee upset. |

Well, would there be a bus or something going down? I can't really get down on my own.
We played amazingly today, it was one of the best performances I've seen in a long time. We dominated for long spells and we should have put the game beyond doubt long before the Spartans goal. BRILLIANT!
