A Thrashing This Sat For Elgin... |

Can't see the players being up for this game so looks like a big defeat could be on the cards from the league leaders
Dumbarton. |

I DONT AGREE WITH YOUR COMMENT SAMMY, SPEAKING TO SOME OF THE PLAYERS AFTER SATURDAYS GAME MAKES ME THINK THAT THEY ARE HURTING AND REALLY DO WANT TO WIN THE
REMAINING GAMES. ALOT OF PEOPLE THINK THAT SOME OF THEM ONLY TURN UP FOR THE PAY BUT THEY DO HAVE PRIDE AND NOBODY LIKES TO LOSE.
CMON THE CITY, LETS FINISH WITH MAX POINTS!!!! |

MICKMANX,
I don't think that citysaver's post should be taken in any wrong context. At the end of the day, we are, and will be, bottom of the SFL Third Division, fact, and that can't be changed. And he's right, it has been, overall, a poor season, cosidering the expectations following the finish we had last season, and on which we expected to build on. However, as you rightly point out, there has been a change of manager, who has to be given the opportunity to show what he can do, and there has been the introduction of the youngsters, who have aquited themselves very well, so that's been refreshing. Now it will be up to the powers that be to provide Ross Jack with his budget, so that he can have a clear understanding of just what he can afford to do for next season, and hopefully it will be a good enough budget to allow him to make a difference, and move the club away from the bottom of the league. Even aiming for a mid table position, and then some stability would be good. |

IVE TAKEN ECFC AS MY TEAM FOR 10YRS AND WANT THE BEST FOR THE CLUB AND FANS AND SOMETIMES YOU NEED TO SEE YOUR PINT HALF FULL NOT HALF EMPTY. |

Hi MICKMANX,
You know, football's a hell of a thing, and it probably causes more discussions and disagreements than anything else in the word, and once you get a bee in your bonnet, look out, because you have just got to get what you want to say off your chest! But that's healthy, and nothing wrong with it at all, and the best thing about this message board is that it allows you the opportunity to do just that, and I'm sure everyone will agree. The important thing is that it's your views that are debated, and not you, or others, as a person, and that's where it can all fall down at times. Thankfully, on here, that's few and far between, and long may that continue. As for you being born in Kent, I'm sure no one will hold that against you, and 10 years as a City fan earns you an "unofficial" adoption. Best wishes, Mo |

you`re right about the positives, new manager ross jack`s training methods are brilliant, young lads love it. hopefully sign a couple of good players in the summer. negatives, still losing good youngsters ( dan smith ) and communication to fan`s is terrible. we`ll lose good players to highland league sides who will pay more money. do you remember that night in the 2 red shoes back in the early seventies when you told me you were going to be a pirate when you grew up and you would keep in touch with me by using the same gadget that captain kirk used to tell scotty to beam him up. but i knew you were drunk when you said tiger was really nae good. |

Another one under cover who is still behind a name, but as for the night in the Two Red Shoes, then I would have been drunk, and no doubt about it! As for keeping in touch, then if Captain Kirk had a laptop, then all has come true on that front, but as for me being a Pirate, never in a million years did I see myself being out here at this stage of my life, and that's the truth!!!! As for the positives and negatives you've mentioned, I've been told by "Polly" that Ross Jack is an excellent coach, and I hope he is given the chance to put his own ideas in place by giving him a decent budget to work with. Maybe he can also reverse the trend of youngsters leaving the club, and heading to the HFL, but that will be a harder part of the job for him, as it's difficult to keep youngsters happy if they're not getting a game, as all they want is the chance to play football, and unfortunately, they can't all get that chance. Still, let's see what transpires next season, and will telegram sam be the next poster to "come out" and expose who they are?????? |

Where's the positives from that lot?
Hit for six again. It just goes from not too good to bad to worse. Thank God the season is nearly over as it's been embarrassing to the fans (the fans that are left that is). |

Hi Citymad,
No, a 0-6 thrashing isn't too good, but what was the Elgin team, as the one thing I can't get here is the teamlines! To be fair, put yourself in Dumbartons shoes, and you're going for the title. A home game against the bottom dogs, and if I were Jim Chapman, I'dhave the palyers up the wall, wating to get out there and push right from the start, and I'd be looking for a result like this. Everyone seems to have positives since Ross Jack has come in, and you have been very quiet, so maybe you can give me your spin on things as you see them, because it's good to hear different opinions. |

Dumbarton Game | ||
|
City team lined up as follows:-
McNulty Nicholson Kaczan David W Craig David A Craig Gillespie Edwards O'Donoghue McKay Cameron Campbell Dumbarton started off the game with a strong wind at their backs and it was obvious early on that they were up for the game. They pushed us back at every opportunity and threatened our goal almost every time they were up the park. The first goal was unlucky for us. A Carcary shot was brilliantly palmed up in the air by McNulty. We thought is was over the bar, but it came down right on the line and despite a last gasp attempt at a clearance, it bounced high into our net. It was obvious that Dumbarton were aware of our lack of pace at the back and Murray and Carcary threatened to run riot - and that is exactly what they did. Carcary in particular went past our defenders as if they were'nt there and a pass from him into the box saw their centre forward beat Andy McNulty to the ball and slide it into our net. After that it was the Derek Carcary show as he played one-two's with Murray to get in behind our defence and beat Andy McNulty with ease.......twice. Half-time down 4-0. We had contributed to our own downfall as the number of times we gave possession back to the home side on numerous occasions was totally unacceptable. The second half started with the wind behind us and a period of possession followed. A good passing movement resulted in a good Ross O'Donoghue shot, but the keeper saved comfortably. A long ball over our defence saw Kaczan and David W Craig competing against Carcary for it. Kaz left it for Craig who got his feet in a fankle and it left Carcary to go round McNulty and pass the ball into our net for number five. With 6 minute left another long ball over the top left Murray with clear run in on goal (He looked offside to me and I was directly opposite him when the pass was made.). There endeth the scoring and our away trips for the season. I would award pass marks yesterday to only two players - Ross O'Donoghue who is always involved in games and never gives up and David A Craig for non stop running and covering almost every blade of grass on both flanks. Ross Jack must now be aware of the size of the job facing him for next season. Priority 1 has to be for at least three strikers ( 2 to play and 1 to keep these two on their toes). Priority 2 has to be some pace in our team in all positions. Priority 3 is to find some more industrious midfield players to help O'Donoghue. We need to be starting games with 11 players prepared to give their all and make things happen every week for Elgin City. At the moment we are taking the field with only about half the team doing this and the other half of the team just waiting for things to happen. If any of the players happen to read this post, decide for yourself (with honesty) which category you fit into. If you fit into the latter category, the least you can do is to go away, get yourself superfit for next season and come back next year and prove to us that we were wrong about you. C use all next season. |

Hi Mo, No i have'nt been on for a while as i thought i'd keep quiet and give the new manager some time to find his feet but i'm not convinced that anything is going to change, now or in the near future. Maybe disposing of the ground,as rumoured in another thread, will be our only chance of survival in the long term as how can we sustain all the increasing costs of running Borough Briggs when the team continues to flounder at the bottom of the Scottish League with crowds dropping to an all time low. The efforts being made to bring in money from hiring the facilities will all help to pay the debts but will it be enough in the long run. I would prefer to see more effort being put in to getting a winning team on the park which would hopefuly in turn bring in more paying customers through the
gate which surely has to be the main purpose of being in the league.

It's a double edged sword, you could go for broke, splash the cash and it might not work. God knows City spent fortunes (Ryan Green etc ) getting in HL
players when Caldwell was manager and it didn't work out.
What the current board are trying to do is have City live within their means but then like you say, is bottom of the division good enough - no of course it is not. I feel that it has to be a bit of both, spending the money where necessary and doing it wisely. Now that it looks like they have got the finances under control, it's time to give what spare cash they have to the manager to rebuild the squad. We can't have another season rock bottom. But at the same time, Ross Jack has to be given time to build his own team. Jason Bochel City supporter |

Hi Stuart / Jason,
Fair point from both of you but the one thing I wouldn't like to see is moving from Borough Briggs. Regardless of where we go, any stadium has its running costs, and a new stadium is no different from an existing one. In fact, sometimes it can be more costly! Living within your means is also something that many clubs will have to learn to do, and if Elgin are ahead of the game with that, then that's a positive! Good players also cost money, but, believe it or not, good players are playing for other clubs, for a lot less money than they would get at Elgin, but unfortunately, these guys are South based, and if Elgin want them, then they have to pay over the odds to get them. We really do suffer financially due to our geographical locationand we have to accept that. So, this makes it all the more important that the board look at all avenues possible to raise cash, not just to survive, but to plan ahead for moving the club forward on the playing side as well. It's a tall order, but one that has to be addressed to take the club to the next level. |
