Hi folks,
I've been in communication with Andy Crerar in the past few days, following the piece in last weeks Northern Scot, which gave a very positive view of the Trust. However, Andy has brought me up to speed with happenings back home regarding the Trust, and in particular the disappointment of having to cancel the fund raising Race Night, on the night it took place, due to what can only be described as a disasterous turn out. I know it's easy for me to comment from across the Atlantic, but unless the Trust gets the support it needs, than it will go now where! The Trust is not something that you sign up to and use as a forum to "sound off" at what you think is wrong with the club, but it should consist of like minded people who want the best for the club, and who are prepared to work together to achieve the aim of the Trust, which is, in this case, primarily to support the club in any way it can, while at the same time, try and raise enough capital through fund raising, to purchase a shareholding, and from there, to try and negotiate a seat on the Board of Directors, so that the Fans have a voice in how the football club is run.
Unless members, and the fans realise that this is the aim of the Trust, it will fail, and with it, the opportunity for the fans to aquire that voice in the Boardroom with it!
When we first met, and the setting up of the Trust was mooted, it was always known that a lot of work would be left to the willing horses for a start, but it was hoped that with like minded people joining, the workload would be spread, and the Trust would grow! However, by the look of things, it seems that apathy has again risen to the surface, and there is a real danger that the Trust could disappear, which would be a real shame, both for the fans, and for the club. With Director's Gordon Fimister and Steve Milne now attending Trust meetings, I believe that you could not have two more open board members to discuss the Trusts views, issues, concerns, and suggestions with, and although there still may be some sceptisism from both sides as to how well the relationship can be developed, it won't have a better chance than it has now, and it should be worked on by all concerned.
So, please, to all the members who have signed up, and joined the Trust, for whatever reason, I'd ask that you get behind the Trust, and support it, firstly now, to ensure it survives, and secondly, that you all work to grow the Trust into a body that can be of a benefit to, and work alongside, Elgin City Football Club.
