Very sad indeed though God knows why I should say that considering the hammerings City used to get from them in the days before our glory years. I was well
into my teens before I saw Elgin win at Grant Street.
Donnachie and Pines - the stuff of nightmares. Nonethess, Save the Lilies! |

It really would be a sad day if Clach were to go. They have produced many great players over the years, and come who have also strutted their stuff for Elgin.
I could ryme off a few stories of my visits to Grant Street, and the times we had in the Boardroom and Social Club after the games, but we'll keep them
until we see what happens.

Hi Gamrieloon,
You always want to hear my stories, but I'm sure you have some to tell too!!!!!!!! Will we ever hear any of them I wonder!!!!!!! Seriously though, here are a couple that I might tell in the future: 1. While the guest in an opponents boardroom one Wednesday night that they were playing Clach, everyone had a few "social drams", and then the hosts said cheerio to the Clach guys, as the left in the coach. About 15 minutes later, someone realised that the Clach President was sitting sleeping in a chair in a corner, and they had left without him. Luckily, they must have realised too, as a while later, they appeared back to recover him. 2. While coming back from a game at Brora, (I was with Lossie at the time), we decided to call into the Clach Social Club for a refreshment, where we were always welcome, and while in the club, we were having a dram with the current Chairman of Clach at the time. A fan came up to the Clach Chairman, and told him there was a bit of trouble going on outside, at which point, the Chairman excused himself. Around 10 minutes later, the Chairman came back, missing his club blazer, shirt torn and covered in blood! He rubbed his hands together, and said, "Well, that's that sorted, who's for a dram"? 3. Playing Clach in a Qualifying Cup tie at Rothes, we defeated them 2-1 to qualify for the semi's, and of course, the draw forthe Scottish Cup. At Rothes, we had installed the "Infamous" boot room, where we took opposition Managers and Coaches in for a drink after the game Unfortunately, the Clach Manager of the time really went out of his way to drown his sorrows, and was carted onto the team bus by the rest of his staff. We played them two weeks later in the league at Grant Street, and I got the shock of my life, when I read the Managers Preview in the programme. Nothing about the game we played the fortnight before, and nothing about the game on the day, but a whole page dedicated to the Rothes Boot Room!!!! 4. Before a game at Grant Street, again with Lossie, I had to go through from the Dressing Room to get our secretary, who was in the social club. Hell, did I get a surprise to see the then Manager sitting downing a pint of Lager with some fans before the game!!!! And there are many more, but I'll keep them for another day. You'll notice that I've been polite and mentioned no names, but I'm sure that many reading these snippets will either have heard of them, or were actually there!!!! |

who was the bus driver that took us there past the Caley ground when we were away to Clach and ICT were at home?
I remember being 1-0 down to them for 80 mins and us scoring twice in the last 5 mins one time. The fans were ripping us and we had the last laugh. Shame to see them go out of business. |

Hang on Neefie,
They're not gone yet! Some time back I mentioned that certain businessmen were looking to take over at Clah, an that thy may hav ben rady to approach RW as their manager. At the time, I was accused of stirring things up, but, for those interested, I'd watch the press, as I read today, that those same businessmen are the ones that Clach hope will save them! "Polly" has also stated that they will fullfill all their fixtures for the season, so things don't look to bad jut now!! Here's hoping they find a solution!!!!!! |

Great post and superb tales - thank you. I do hope something gets sorted out at Clach - they are too important a club to fail. I would hate to think anything like this could happen to ECFC. Gamrieloon |

'But one big name previously linked with investing in Clach - Caley Thistle's major shareholder, David Sutherland - distanced himself from the Merkinch
club last night.
He said: "My concentration is on helping Inverness Caledonian Thistle."' No sympathy there, then. |

None AllyT,
And he was one of the two mentioned last season as well. It would be a shame if there were no Inverness club in the HFL, with it being the capital of the Highlands, considering there used to be Citadel, Thistle, Caley and Clach. Then there were four, and in such a short space of time, there could be none! Hellish!!!!!!!! |

Citadel? Surely not even Pirate Mo is old enough to have seen them.
As for Sutherland at the Clach - you're more likly to see Fergus McCann save the Rangers. |

Hey Zebra2006,
You're right, but my Granda told me all about them!!!! The question is, how do you remember them?????? |

Mr Pirate I can say in all honesty that not only did I never see Citadel play they did not feature in any current HL
table that I read.

Zebra,
Inverness Citadel Football Club, were based in Shore Street, and were founded in 1880, and were initial members of the HFL, when it was formed in 1894. They won the League once, in 1909, but withdrew from the HFL in 1935. They also staked their place in Scottish Football history, by becoming the first HFL team to beat an SFL team in the Scottish Cup, when they defeated Clackmannan 5-3, in the first round in the 1921-22 season. The industrial Estate at Inverness Harbour now covers the area where the park was, but as you'll have seen on your trip araound that area, the Citadel Bar can still be seen. |
