I hear that East Stirling have brought in a lot of financial clout in the boardroom ( yes, I'm still in touch out here ), but whether that's enough to
attract the best players into the club remains to be seen. It's all very well trying to fix up the likes of John Hartson, but what type of player is he
going to want, and who is he going to attract. Do you think that he will want to work with the same players that Gordon Wylde had? Don't think so. He will
be looking to bring in seasoned pro's to get results. But how many seasoned pro's want to be playing in the Third Division for east Stirling, even for
the cash, as there is a stigma about the name of East Stirling, although there shouldn't be.
East Stirling have always been classed as a club that SURVIVES, by taking on young players in the hope that they can sell on one or two, and is a good breeding ground for players to get in the shop window, the same as Third Division clubs can be for retiring pro's who want to cut their teeth as managers. Where would Sir Alex Ferguson be now had he not had the chance tomanage East Stirling.Whoknows, as without that first break, you never can tell. I don't think it wil be the money alone that will help tochange East Stirling, but what I would suggest, is a change of name. The Shire fans may well be up in arms at that one, but just think about it. A brand new image in a new name, the old stigma gone, money to spend, and yes, you may well then attract the type of players required by the likes of John Hartson AND fan numbers may also increase with a whole new image. |

They've been in the name change business before. In fact, they went further than that and changed their town as well - ES Clydebank. And yes, the Shire
fans were up in arms.
At one time ES were playing very poorly in the basement of the old First Division and relegated after one season. The comparable position now would be lower reaches of SFL 1, about where Partick Thistle are. |

So whats your next "exclusive" 50/50....Kenny Gilbert to become new manager of Deveronvale? Board to apply for Highland League status?? Robbie
Williamson to take over from Gordon Smith at the SFA???
I can't wait to hear, your posts are like a bad soap opera |

Hey Chico ,did you ever get those Elgin Northern Soul t shirts done ?

3 predictions Badgerfan, I don't think you realise it but you're not far off the mark. 1.Vale have made an approach to Elgin City for Kenny Gilbert
I don't know who 50/50 is but what I do know is there is nearly always substance to his/her posts. Vale would ideally like Williamson and Gilbert but I
don't believe Williamson is interested. They would quite happily see Gilbert go as he speaks out and we all know they can't stand the truth being told.
East Stirling are showing ambition not just by trying for Hartson but setting out their stall for next season, they spent a few quid in the window and look
prepared to spend more to progress. What are our lot doing? I'll tell you for nothing one director would be quite happy to finish 2nd bottom, another says
its not worth going up we're better off in the 3rd division and its been well publicised others would go back to the Highland League. Thats the ambition of
the Elgin City Board. What does that tell the manager
|

Ambition?...what ambition? | ||
|
If this is all true then why on earth are they on the board in the first place. We need directors that want to bring the club forward, not stay stagnant in
the 3rd division or worse. Nothing has obviously changed since the days of Meichan, Green and Thomson or do they have a bigger input in the club than we all
know? Surely an Elgin City performing well and looking for promotion is good for Robertsons, is it not in their best interests to see the club in higher
divisions, its certainly in the fans bests interests. We want to be going to watch City play the likes of Raith and Airdrie rather than East Stirling and
Albion Rovers (no disrepect to them).

Badgerfan,
Reading your post, I can't understand where Robertons would benefit from promotion, as they don't have their names on the strips any more, although they are still a big shareholder in the club. Any prestiege from good performances and looking for promotion should go to Colin MacDonald at George Hay & Co, as the main shirt sponsors this season. As for the rest of some of the posts, then I'm way behind out here. This thing about Deveronvale. Has Gregg Carrol been sacked or left the club? If he has, that news has not reached the Caribbean yet. As for some of the other issues raised by 50/50, and City Tattler, I must agree that 50/50 seems never to be far off the mark, and he/she is way out in front with their information, and that is why they have previously been questioned as to the source of their information. Yet, there is never an answer to that, and it does tend to point to somebody either within, or with very close contact to the club, which, if that is the case, it is dissappointing. However, if silly suggestions like some of those hinted at by 50/50 do have any substance, I would urge as many people as possible to join the Supporters Trust, and if they have shares that they could transfer to the trust, then please do so. The stronger the Trust becomes, then they are the voice of the fans, and also, the stronger they become, then the more influence they can have about what happens within the club. |

I could understand if Kenny wants to take the Vale job as it would be the chance for him to be his own man. Robbie on the other hand, if he was to go with him,
would be embarrasing for the club.

Its not a case of Kenny wanting the Vale job, my understanding is the Board don't want to keep Kenny.
WHY? I don't think the City Tattler is far off the mark. Kenny Gilbert is an absolute winner on and off the park and held in very high regard in football circles, the way he fought back from serious injury is credit to his committment. He has thrown everything into Elgin City FC since he joined Robbie. Yes he'll ruffle a few feathers as i've said numerous times before nice guys don't win things. If he's allowed to go without an attempt to keep him its an absolute disgrace and a real kick in the teeth to Robbie. Not only do we lose an assistant we lose a quality player. Its time for the Board to declare their intentions. Do they share the dream of the management team and fans or not. |

BWM,
I know that you are close to Robbie, and I have no doubt that your information has deoth to it, but I find it hard to believe that this is the case. As you have previously said, Robbie has worked miracles on a she string, in fact, with the resources he's had, he's actually had to cut a lace and use half on each shoe, and I'm not convinced that the board do not recognise thiese efforts. I find it hard to swallow that bearing this in mind, that they will allow such a thing to happen, as I'm sure that the fans and the new Supporters Trust would not be happy with these things happening. To have two guys like Robbie and Kenny being so locally bases, and to the job they have done is something that any club would wish to hold on to, and I can't see the Board at Elgin City being blind to these guys achievements. I'm certainly well out of touch with my contacts out here now, and am relying on the message board to keep me up to date, but, I would ask, does anyone else have knowledge of these changes that are being mooted here? |

"source". I really can't see the board letting Robbie go, why would they, they spent a good while finding the right man and, they seem to have
done so. As for Kenny, perhaps he has been sounded out by Deveronvale, why not? I'm sure he'd make a decent HFL manager and who are we to stand in his
way.. we all gave MJ our best wishes when he wanted to step up a level, why is this different?
