Hi Ronnie,

No Chico and no Ally Shewan, although both Elgin greats. However, because it was asked that the players could come from the year dot, it's quite hard, and you have to start comparing the players with the time frame they played in.

Chico was certainly in my mind for the team I mentioned, but on comparing him with Dougal, there was no contest, and that's no disrespect to Chico. Coming second to Dougal is no mean feat. As for Ally, he was a great player for Elgin, but Aberdeen had the best years of him, and he was at Elgin for a pretty short time.

I also had to think about the past and the present styles and formations, and although I put Ian Wilson down at Left midfield, if I had been looking for a left half, I'd have probably opted for Winnie Mair, but I went more with a modern player, so to speak.

You'll know from your thread on the Good Old Days, just how people see different era's in their own way, and that's why I am happy to see everyones opinions on this thread. I hope it generates as much interest as the Good Old Days, because that was, and still is, of great interest.
