I have said it before and I'll say it again that Mark is not a central defender and unlike Rubadubdub, I don't think he is a right back either. In these two positions a mistake can be vital and believe me he does make mistakes. He has always looked best in midfield, being on the ball and going at the opposition midfield/defenders. He carries the ball well and his distribution is fine. On Saturday he was playing in the centre of defence presumably because of David Niven's absence and we needed a bit of height in the back four. He played OK but our defence shipped 4 goals (2 of them were headers) - not Mark's fault, but I believe we need a bit of experience in the centre of our defence to help out some of the young lads playing in the more peripheral roles. Perhaps with the right coaching that a full-time club would give him, Mark could well become a central defender, but for the moment a midfield role is best for him and for Elgin City.I hope that Ross Jack sees this role for Mark and gives him a chance there.
