Well Well so much for the Peterhead recovery. We played them off the park and with some proper finishing the score could have been at least 10. Yes, I know there were 3 own goals but at least 2 of them were going in anyway. City started the game in good form but were dealt a blow early on when Graeme Beveridge went down injured and was subsequently taken off. Ross O'Dhonogue came on into midfield and Niv took Bev's position at right back. City were all over them but chance after chance was passed up. Gunny, Soapy,Stuart Leslie and Danny Moore passed up chances ( some more difficult than others ), and the woodwork saved Peterhead twice. The goal when it did come certainly comes into the weird category. We had lost the ball and the defence was preparing to get the ball back to their keeper - only thing was, nobody told the keeper. As the defender passed the ball back to him he was already on his way out and the ball trundled slowly over the line in spite of the keeper's best efforts to prevent it. So 1-0 at half time and we thought that Peterhead could not be as poor as they had been in the first half. Perhaps that's being unkind to them as City simply did not let them play. The second half was not that old when we hit them with 2 quick goals. The first followed a corner from Daniel Moore. The defenders could not clear the ball and it landed at Paul Millar's feet and from an acute angle he swept it past the keeper. The third goal was another own goal as their number 4 tried to head an inswinging cross but only succeeded in heading it past his own keeper. A great finish Paul. The fourth goal arrived courtesy of Rory McAllister - yes the same guy who dived in the previous game to get our keeper sent off. An Inswinging corner from Daniel Moore was headed past the keeper by Rory. Yes he does sometimes score goals from open play as opposed to penalties. Thank-you Rory for giving us a goal and a night to remember. Peterhead then had the gall to score a goal. A breakaway up the park resulted in a corner to them and their number 8 fairly bulleted a header past Zander. Shortly after this perhaps the goal of the game when Gunny played in Soapy with a lovely reverse pass and he jinked his way past three defenders and passed the ball into the net. All finished I hear you say - well not quite. This time Soapy returned the complement to Gunny and he hit an unsaveable shot past the Peterhead keeper. Not a failure in this team - this was the kind of football we were playing earlier in the season. Paul Hartley was sitting in the stand next to us and I swear to god he couldn't have had much lead left in his pencil going by the speed he was writing at. We would certainly have given him plenty food for thought with this display, and I'm sure it will be Ross Jack looking forward more to Saturday's game than Paul Hartley.
