Synthetic Pitch - Fifa feasibility study |

Very interesting, most businesses would sell their granny (let alone their star player) to get that level of return on investment. Also the figures dont take
into account the indirect benefits of opening the club to the community, thereby increasing potential support. Shame the board has made it very clear that a
five year plan is a waste of time..........

I posted the link to this article as I know that we have talked about the synthetic pitch many times before on this forum and there are strong opinions for
both for and against. I think that its good information for us from a more reliable source than our own 'through the grape vine' sources etc to inform
our future rambling on the matter.
Like you say DuhramExile, it really is a shame about our own board. I suppose all we can do is push the idea toward the club hoping that they might see some sense in a great step forward for the club. |

elwood,
When I posted my thoughts on the installation of a synthetic pitch, I did so on the findings at Stenny, which were given to me by Willie Furphy, who in turn got the information from Stevie Ferguson, who was at Stenny at the time. The cost information I had were from, dare I say it, from the Kenny Black days, as he had asked me to supply costs for the preparation of the ground to receive the Tiger Turf, which was his preffered surface. It makes great business sense to install a synthetic surface, and as proved at Stenny, the income from non football events is there to be had, providing it is marketed properly. But, I'm afraid this one keeps falling on deaf ears within nthe powers that be. |

Do you honestly think that Elgin City Board listens to anything anyone says! Like the 5 year business plan!!!

Mo,
in all honesty I didnt know thats where you got your information from, I didnt know you posted a link to it previously, sorry. In all honesty a lot of people might have had the same information, but at the time I talked about the synthetic pitch (and I said a lot) I didnt know about this. All I was hoping to achieve was to maybe bring it to the attention of a few more city fans who maybe havnt seen the article yet like I hadnt, I was trawling the internet when I saw it by accident. Highlander, No I dont think that the board listen to us fans at all but that doesnt mean that we shouldnt be talking about it as fans and then hopefully gaining enough solid ideas together to put forward to the board via the trust. Is that not what the trust is about? (and yes I am a member) Just because the board thinks one way wont stop us from having our own ideas opinions about how it is/should be run. The board has been acting for self benefit for a while now (a few exceptions yes), yet we all still offer ideas an post about them to try and help and have healthy active discussions about our clubthat we all care about |

elwood,
You've nothing to be sorry for, as it's abrilliant post. Al the information I got was by word of mouth, butthe linkyou found really does buck it up, and more!!! Nobody can argue with facts and figures, and you have managed to find them! Great work!!!! I'm sure Noall will have great pleasure reading these facts and figures too, as he has also been an advocator of a synthetic surface, and recognises the hge marketing potential it would have for the club. Thanks elwood. |

Even if the club decided to go down that road, do we not think it would be to late in the day. I am sure you are all aware of the local council being already
involved in all weather pitches at Speyside (Aberlour) Fochabers, which is up and running and Burghead, who will have their own pitch changed very shortly. I
think the club would find it very difficult to attract the local community to BB when there may already be a pitch in their own back yard. Only my own opinion.

Knock,
For goodness sake, why don't people start thinking "outside of the box"! The financial benefits can come more from non football activities on a synthetic surface, not just football related ones. But I don't believe that because there will be facilities in Aberlour and Burghead, it would hinder the hiring out of a similar surface at Borough Briggs for five-a-sides during non-Elgin City hours. Split the playing area in two, and you have two five-a-side pitches ready to play on, and bring in some income. What does it take to see this is good business sense! |

Elgin City and 'good business sense' don't go in the same sentence.
The board won't want to spend any money! |

As a stenhousemuir fan, I posted a thread on this forum just before our game with you back in October (when you beat us 4-2 !!). I had not seen this study
but was pleasantly surprised by all the info it provided. As an aside I am playing in the third annual over 30's v under 30's fans match on the pitch
this coming Saturday which the club organise. We get the pitch free, officials, first team strips and the club bar afterwards. The club chairman, Davie Reid
plays as does John Coughlin and his management team. In a nutshell, you can't get any better links with your fans than that. It all came about three
years as the club thought who better to be the first people to play on the pitch than the fans.

Hi Scully,
That's a great post, and it sounds like you guys have a great relationship between fans and club. |
